PROLOTHERAPY:
Prolotherapy (Prolo) also uses growth factor technology and science to heal soft issue injuries and arthritis pain. With this treatment we use medications which stimulate the injured tissue creating a local inflammation which attracts the growth factors like a magnet to the site setting in motion the bodies normal repair process. Healing usually occurs in 5-7 monthly sessions.
How does Prolotherapy work?
The body has the capacity to heal itself. It does it every day. When we cut our skin it heals. When we break a bone it heals. If we sprain our ankle it heals. If we go for surgery the body heals itself if the surgeon just lines up the tissue with some stitches. For healing to occur we must create some positive local inflammation which wakes up or sets in motion the body's normal healing process. This treatment is also performed using ultrasound or fluoroscopically guided injections to the injured site.
This principle is also used in other areas of medicine as well. For example, how is it possible if you go to the Dermatologist for a laser peel or a chemical peel where they burn your face or even dermabrasion with sandblasting of the skin that the body responds underneath by growing new healthy looking skin? Well, we know and it is proven, like Prolotherapy, it causes a local controlled inflammation which releases and attracts growth factors to the area to create new collagen growth and new skin. Skin and tissue biopsies and have proven this.
Who Should Have Prolotherapy?
It can be used for any type of joint, tendon, ligament, back or neck problem, the achy back syndrome and disc pain, Rib or TMJ pain. It can literally tighten up loose joints and get rid of hypermobility problems. Dr. Magaziner now has a running series of pediatric patients and teenagers who have frequent shoulder dislocations and have been diagnosed with instability of the shoulder with surgery being the recommended treatment. One of these patients went to the Hospital of Special Surgery and was told they needed surgery which would have created a disfiguring scar. In 7 out of 8 cases so far we have been able to stop the dislocations and return these kids to a normal healthy life style. Back to playing their baseball, field hockey, gymnastics, or soccer without reoccurrence.
Why should you have Prolotherpay?
Prolotherapy is a simple, natural technique that stimulates the body to repair the painful area when the natural healing process needs some assistance. Instead of the more commonly used anti-inflammatory medications which can have major side-effects and do nothing to regenerate or enhance function, prolotherapy aids the body in repairing the damage. With the amount of chronic patients growing, prolotherapy has the potential to eliminate the chronic pain caused by ligament and tendon weakness, joint pain or arthritis.
For more than two years, I have received treatments from you for my spinal stenosis and arthritis of the knee and fingers. Because of your unique ability you have made it possible for me to be almost pain free. The prolotherapy treatments have impacted me in a positive and dramatic way. Without your help, I would have had a miserable existence that in the long run I would have not had the patience to endure. Literally, you made it possible for me to live on. I thank you for your medical expertise and for the special person you are in delivering care.
With best wishes.

I was in extreme pain when I first came to see Dr. Magaziner in August, 1998. My lower back and left hip hurt so badly that I was unable to sit for any length of time. I had been this way since the beginning of April. A chiropractor and a neurologist were unable to be of any help to me. I as not able to sit or walk without pain and therefore had to change my plans for my summer vacation. My quality of life was very diminished because there was so much that I was unable to do and/or enjoy due to the constant pain. I am a teacher and it was difficult to do my job properly because the pain made it difficult to concentrate on what I was supposed to be doing.
My chiropractor referred me to Dr. Magaziner who, over a six month period, has treated me with a series of prolotherapy, trigger pain and joint injections. I can honestly say that I feel at least ninety percent better. I am able to sit and walk without pain and have resumed a number of activities that I had stopped because of my impaired functioning. I definitely credit Dr. Magaziner and his treatment for this improvement and will be forever grateful.
Sincerely yours,
RA
I was involved in a car accident on 4/20/01 that changed my life. I had back and neck injuries with radiculopathy into the lower extremities. I was on short-term disability for 5 months from my position as a Manager at PaineWebber. Prior to the accident I was very successful in my profession in Information Technology for over 20 years. I was driving over 100 miles round trip to work, Monday through Friday with no problems. I was also very active with outdoor and indoor activities. After the accident I had 3 epidurals that only provided temporary relief. I also received acupuncture therapy, which provided only temporary relief. I had water and physical PT. After all these treatments I was still in pain and not able to live my life as prior to the accident.
I went to see Dr. Magaziner and things began to change for the better. After the initial consultation I thought that maybe finally I had found someone who could and would help me get better. I had series of treatments in my neck and back with approximately an 80% improvement, Dr. Magaziner is a wonderful doctor and person. He is responsible for giving me a quality of life I thought I would never have after my accident.

Thank you [Dr. Magaziner] so much for all that you have done. Without you I don’t know how I would have managed with all the pain I had.

Congratulations [Dr. Magaziner] on your new sphere of practice. While my comfort level is not currently as good as it was closer to treatment, I am very much better than before it, and I’m so glad that I found someone who was able to help me. I’m completely off the painkillers and only have the over-all tightness once in awhile. Thanks again and I hope your new venture brings you satisfaction and additional success treating people.
P.B.
I want to thank Dr. Magaziner for fixing my knee, like it has never been before. My knee swelled up from arthritis after treatment from Dr. Magaziner it was back to normal. It is a miracle.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for all your assistance in trying to alleviate my back pain. had gone through quite an ordeal prior to seeing you and I am extremely grateful that you listened to me and believed in me. The fact that you understood the amount of pain I have been experiencing, alone, was enough to relieve some stress and aggravation for me. You and your staff were always courteous and friendly towards me, and I know you did everything within your power to expedite my treatments. The dealings I’ve had with both you and Dr. Reich, have restored my faith in doctors. I just wish I had known about you both sooner. I would highly recommend you to others, should the need ever arise. You made my experiences as pleasant as possible under circumstances.Once again, thank you for your patience and for hanging in there with me, a ‘diagnostically challenging patient’. That’s how Dr. Reich refers to me.

I injured my right knee in 1965 during high school phys ed. At the time, I did not go to an orthopedic physician. About 5 years later, after coping with a "trick knee," during physical activity, I did consult an orthopedist who told me I had "stretched" ligaments, but that surgery was not necessary as long as I was able to cope with the limited disability. (This was prior to arthroscopic surgeries.) Since I was well able to ride my horse and had no need to run or engage in other demanding exercise, I managed quite well.
In 1999, I injured my left knee in a home accident. The subsequent pain and instability took me to another orthopedist and an eventual surgery to clean up torn cartilage and meniscus. At that time I also found I had a complete tear of my ACL. We elected not to reconstruct the ligament, since my physician said I could probably cope without it at my level of activity and my chosen sport of riding.
In 2003, a fall re-injured my right knee. Serious swelling and pain took me back to the orthopedic surgeon. I had arthroscopic surgery in April of 2003, identical to the surgery on my left knee. Like my left knee, I also have no ACL in my right knee and elected not to repair it. Despite extensive physical therapy for more than two months afterwards, my right knee remained swollen and painful. Various arthritis remedies did not help at all.
A course of Synvisc injections and later Hyalagen did little to improve my condition and I was left with swelling and pain. To make things more difficult, the extra strain placed on my left knee to compensate was also causing it to be sore and occasionally lose its stability.
In April of 2004, I was referred to Dr. Edward Magaziner for prolotherapy. He began a course of injections in both knees to improve the stability of my joints and ligaments.
By December, I had considerable improvement. Both knees felt far more stable and some of the swelling in my right knee was gone. The muscle pain, apparently caused by the struggle to compensate for my loose ligaments in holding my knees in place was much less, but I did have recurring pain in the area of the kneecap. Since I knew there were arthritic changes in my joints, I was beginning to accept this pain as a "normal" part of my condition.
Early in 2005, Dr. Magaziner suggested trying to restore the cartilage in my right knee with stem cell therapy. The process involved using the stem cells in my own blood to be injected into my knee joints. The addition of growth hormones and ozone would be added. We began treatment in February.
Three series of injections in my right knee have had remarkable results. For the first time in nearly four years, my knee is virtually pain free. While I still wear a brace when I ride or do strenuous work, on a day-to-day basis, I can stand and walk in comfort. If I stress my knee a lot, it will still become sore, but swelling and pain are minimal. Dr. Magaziner’s treatment has accomplished what surgery, medication, and physical therapy were unable to do.
I am able to ride my dressage horse with no pain and when I dismount, I can walk without a limp. I still am aware I must be careful because of the missing ACL’s in both knees, but I am more than able to manage to work as I choose.
We are currently treating my left knee with similar stem cell therapy. I am excited about the possibilities. I had all but given up hope of ever being free of the nagging pain in my knees. Now, I am certain it will happen.
Dr. Magaziner’s treatments have produced amazing results. I am grateful to him for his innovative approaches to healing. I am also impressed with his determination to find the solution to his patient’s pain. He always takes the time to explain procedures and to answer questions. During treatments, he takes extra care to be sure his patient is comfortable and makes every effort to eliminate pain during injections.
Thank you, Dr. Magaziner, for having the vision to pursue the possibilities of the newest and best in medicine. You are taking away my pain.

With my body lying prostrate on the therapy table below me, and a modesty towel across my loins, the doctor spoke the magic words for every serious natural bodybuilder: "No, Paul. Steroids do not have to be used to treat inflamed tendons and ligaments. Prolo Therapy fixes those damaged bones in a way that cortisone simply masks. One should not just silence the pain artificially, but repair the bone. Or the nerves. Or the soft connective tissue, which, on you, has become ‘a toxic dump of diseased scar tissue.’" So agreed both Dr. Richard Wilmot and Dr. Magaziner – two superb, medical geniuses in Albany, NY and New Brunswick, NJ, respectively. Those two men put this fifty-five year old body back together, stronger than I had been in ten grueling years of delivering myofascial pain therapy.
From thirty years as a therapist, his last words were a confirmation of my own medical observations. But the pain I suffered was real, snagging all specialty athletes at some point in their natural bodybuilding careers. Look at my exhaustive treatment regimen during that period of time: forty thousand hours of kneading other athlete’s broken flesh, hammering away with both shoulders, elbows, and fists. Steve Downs knows my therapy all too well. Twice a week I had received chiropractic adjustments for that three-decade stretch; piling on two thousand miles of power walking yearly, and eight-hundred sit-ups a day, to power my cardio to the max. No one strengthening their body continuously ever damages that one day too much laxity – ligament and joint looseness – will eventually fight off the best efforts of natural healers to keep his body injury-free and strong.
Appearing, as my own patients have said, out of nowhere – all of my tendons and ligaments were aflame. My neck, severely strained, pitching too far forward, drove my head downward towards my chest. My lower back, once made of impenetrable nerves and muscles of iron, felt as if raw thorns had torn the flesh deep beneath my quadrattus lumborum, the psoas and adductors: the muscles holding every muscle of my pelvis into place. But where would the natural medicine come from to break such a pronounced cycle?
I remembered Dr. Magaziner’s comments: "Natural medicine means steroid-free medication."
In the syringe jacket of the medicine each doctor administered was a combination of dextrose, simple table sugar, and lydocaine – the nonsteroidal juice every dentist uses to quell pain throughout their procedures. I had traveled to Dr. Wilmot’s offices for the early work on my shoulders – a man of extensive insight that spoke with me at length before delivering the Prolo Therapy. In contrast, and now closer to my New Jersey home, Dr. Magaziner, packed his own formidable wallop, having spent years as a physical therapist then becoming a pain doctor, with both men striving not, as the trade would cite, to manage pain but crush it – safely. Throughout my treatment in Dr. Magaziner’s office he consulted a fluoroscope, an active MRI machine, producing dynamic pictures as he injected, especially important in sustaining pinpoint accuracy while working around the delicate tissue, canals and facet joints of the neck. With needles delivered to C5, C6, and C7, all the tissue surrounding my chronically, shrugged shoulders – feeding the levators and upper traps specifically – relaxed, and I felt a torrent of fresh blood pulsing through the damaged injection sites. Two months later, from both doctor’s efforts, those shoulders have warded off the constriction that had bound them four inches too high while impeding their normal, healthy range-of-motion.
Lying across that therapy table, each doctor palpated carefully, feeling the insertions and origins of each offending muscle, drawing a line across multiple ridges of pain that had buried them away from detection by the naked eye. For the squeamish, the thing prick of the needle, within milliseconds, felt much like an acupuncture needle but with one important difference. The lydocaine swiftly muffled all but the deepest pain of the lower back itself – where the ligaments and tendons were most scarred. Otherwise, I carried on a normal conversation the entire time. Which meant picking each doctor’s brain to find out what would be his or her highest expectation? What made this treatment work, where others had failed?
Let this abstract in the Journal of Orthopedic Medicine, written by Dr. K. Dean Reeves, MD, define the possibility of Prolo Therapy: "Prolotherapy involves injecting an area of ligament or tendon laxity or weakness with a solution that stimulates fibroblast proliferation. The goal of proliferation therapy is to restore normal connective tissue length and strength in the affected area, and in doing so to restore adequate skeletal support and eliminate sources of myofascial trigger perpetuation." Let’s put this in plain language. Both Dr. Wilmot and Dr. Magaziner, joining four hundred Prolo doctors worldwide, map out six continuous months of therapy, administering this natural, safe solution of lidocaine and dextrose, once monthly, to each separate, injured area. What Dr. Magaziner stated could only draw your astonishment, as well as mine: "You are setting into motion a controlled inflammatory reaction, done in minute quantities, one designed to heighten the body’s fresh growth of healthy bone, nerve, and connective tissue – after clearing away the debris chocking fresh blood from circulating the stressed tendons or insertions." To quote Dr. Wilmot, my body had undergone Enthesis, the name of his medical practice, which means healthy physiological, and specifically, neurological and bony tissue regeneration. I was then, and I am now, a new man.
As Dr. Reeves, from a medical abstract, further stated: "[Healthy] changes persisted in exercise levels…" Which means, the natural bodybuilder does not have to sacrifice, valuable and healthy treatment regimens. With Dr. Reeve further citing, "Disability, range of motion, and pain levels all improved significantly in patients injected after 5 or more years of chronic pain." Throughout my medical career, it has taken me as long as six years of constant research and investigation to secure the latest treatment approaches, worth exploring by the bodybuilding community. That time is now.
For fifteen years, writing for Exercise for Men Only has meant searching for the newest avenues of natural healing, looking for methods of avoiding steroidal medication, where safer means could be employed. Dr. Magaziner and Wilmot, through the recommendation of a nurse, brought the healing power of Prolotherapy to my beleaguered body. Tell Steve Downs I never left the bodybuilding arena. I have kept my promise that I would only write in when I discovered tried-and-true treatment approaches. Now is the time for my body, now explosively healthy, to report in on Prolotherapy – in the world for over twenty years but finally emerging from the natural healing paths less traveled. Wait until Steve tries to arm-wrestle me over nonalcoholic beer and victuals: with the winner picking up the tab after dinner. Against Prolo man, the bodybuilding champion doesn’t stand a chance.
P.M.
In January of 1989, my automobile was struck from behind. At first, it appeared that I was not injured, but three days later I developed tightness in the face, head, neck, and shoulders diagnosed as whiplash. As directed by my doctor, I applied warm compresses and took Advil but my condition got worse. At times I felt lightheaded and the tightness increased. I also developed ringing in both ears (a sharp shrill) and immense pressure in my inner ears. I stopped all my physical activities (jogging, hiking, canoeing, etc.) except for walking, which took a lot of effort because I was constantly fatigued. I had to wait until I got extremely sleepy to go to bed otherwise the sharp shrill in my ears would not let me fall asleep. I lost my appetite and sometimes when I ate, I felt nausea. I missed many days at work. During this time, I suffered depression. Meanwhile, a mild muscle relaxer was prescribed to no effect. I went to see a neurologist for several tests, which turned out to be negative. I saw an orthopedic surgeon who took x-rays of my neck with negative results. I also saw two oral surgeons who had jaw x-rays and panoramic x-rays of my mouth taken. Finally, a MRI on the sides of my head was taken. All results were negative. I was sent to a dentist who specialized in mandible disorders. She fitted me with a custom-made mouth splint in an attempt to relieve the pressure in my ears, jaws, and temple, which she believed was caused by TMJ disorder as a result of the whiplash. About this time I also experienced strong spasms along my temple, inner ear, jaw, and neck. I spent two and half months with a chiropractor, who worked on my neck to no avail. Through all this, I was also seeing doctors, selected by my insurance company, for independent evaluations. All this occurred in the first six months from the time I had the accident.
My dentist sent me to have physical therapy and ultrasound treatment. I had physical therapy from the waist up but the concentration was on myofascial therapy. My physical therapy treatment lasted nearly two and half years. During this time, my therapists informed me that my condition was chronic and what they would try to do is lessen the symptoms. This is the time that I had to make the decision whether my injury would control the rest of my life or would I take back control of my life. I decided that my injury would not control my life. Fortunately, I had two very good therapists. They were able to get rid of the tightness and spasms in my shoulders. They reduced the tightness and spasms in my neck and face, as a consequence the ringing in my ear was lowered. But they reached a plateau where my improvement stopped. My treatment ceased and I was given instructions on several stretches I could do while showering at home. I also began a more vigorous exercise schedule. I slowly continued to improve so after six years from the time of the accident I could physically do everything I did before the accident. But there was a price to be paid. At times, my spasms would increase causing tightness to increase in my neck, sides of the head, and my face, especially the orbit around my eyes, which felt like eye strain. The ringing in my ears would increase dramatically and sometimes a severe headache would develop. This condition would last 24 – 48 hours generally, which I mentally wrote out of my life. This occurred about once a week. Despite all this, most of the time, I could enjoy life doing many things. Why I was able to do these things is because of my strongest physical constitution and high tolerance of pain. I also started practicing meditation to calm and relax me. I am afraid that many people would have been severely disabled under the same conditions I suffered and would have sought more extensive medical treatment. This condition lasted an additional four years. During this time, I was examining various new treatments that might apply to my condition but I saw nothing promising so I did not seek further treatment.
Around March or April 1998 I had a heavy work schedule at my job. My symptoms of tightness, spasms and ringing in the ears increased substantially. I went to see a doctor that was a specialist in physical and rehabilitation medicine. He prescribed a Ketoprophen gel, which was to be applied to my jaw joints areas. This I did for two months. It calmed my symptoms back to what they were but provided no additional relief. Meanwhile my wife, Karen, viewed a program called "Doctor to Doctor" with host Dr. Picante. Her guest was Dr. Marion Hauser, author of "Prolo Your Pain Away." Karen told me about the show and we kept it in mind, One week later, Karen read in "Moody" magazine a profile of Dr. Hauser and the new treatment he was impressed with what I found. Karen then sent a request to Dr. Picante for more information on Prolotherapy. We received a package, which included a list of doctors from the book "Prolo Your Pain Away" who practiced Prolotherapy. On that list is Dr. Magaziner. I made an appointment with him and he diagnosed my condition as continuing TMJ disorder. I began receiving injections in the TMJ area, alienating each side every two weeks for a total of eight injections. Currently, I have no tightness or spasms in my neck. My face has significantly relaxed especially around the orbits of my eyes. Although the ringing and the pressure in my ears continue to linger on, they are both less intense. In particular, the characteristics of the ringing have changed so the pitch is at a softer level. Since the treatment began, when I have a heavy work schedule, the work has not aggravated my condition as it once did. I am still experiencing lots of reaction from the shots and continued improvement. Where this will finally take me is to be seen. I regret Prolotherapy was not available at the time of my accident. I believe it would have not allowed my condition to deteriorate to the point it did and of course it would have changed my life these past ten years.

In February of 2006 I started to notice quite a bit of lower back and hip tightness after playing basketball (a sport I’ve played since I was 10 years old). At first I thought nothing of it, but the pain worsened and became more persistent. After seeing my chiropractor, an orthopedic surgeon, and a radiologist, the diagnosis was in…I had moderate-to-severe bilateral hip arthritis. The orthopedist already started to prepare me for the advent of bilateral hip replacement.
I was shocked to say the least. I had always been very athletic and while I had my share of nagging injuries (including a very painful case of chronic right Achilles tendonitis-more on that later); I never expected such a severe diagnosis, especially at the age of 49.
My chiropractor referred me to Dr. Magaziner for a prolotherapy evaluation. He had wonderful results with Dr. Magaziner for a severely arthritic left knee and he thought that Prolotherapy (with PRP) might be an effective treatment for me. Dr. Magaziner was cautiously optimistic and we proceeded with six treatments (to date) for both the hip arthritis and the Achilles tendonitis.
My personal results have been extremely impressive. My hip pain is reduced about 40-50% and I’ve been able to resume playing double and singles tennis (the other sport I passionately enjoy), and even full court basketball (albeit with reduced frequency and intensity). While I still have hip pain, I feel it’s manageable and I no longer feel hip replacement is on my immediate horizon.
The results of prolotherapy for the Achilles tendonitis are even more impressive. This was an extremely painful condition that I had suffered with for more than 3 years. Physical therapy and medications were largely ineffective. My pain from this condition is improved 80-90% since prolotherapy began! I barely know I even had this condition, while in the past I thought this was something I would have to suffer with for the rest of my life. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Magaziner for this treatment.

This letter of appreciation is offered from both a professional and personal perspective. Considering that I have been a licensed physical therapist with more than 27 years, my experience as your patient may be worthy of comment.
As you are aware, I have a congenital spinal condition, which predisposed me to spinal stenosis (scar tissue in the spinal canal). This predisposition and my athletic pursuits were of no consequence until two years ago. At that time I began experiencing low back pain, radiculopathy, and numbness into both lower extremities. My condition digressed to where a walk of more than one block would leave both feet numb. I was forced to discontinue my involvement in the martial arts, and my ability to treat patients was compromised.
Having specialized in spinal management as a physical therapist, I was fully aware of the surgical solutions for my diagnoses of spinal segment instability, spinal stenosis, and the tree herniated discs. Decompression laminectomy and fusion were recommended by the chief of spinal surgery from one of the most prestigious university hospitals in Philadelphia. However, as a physical therapist, I am fully aware of the questionable outcomes associated with these surgical procedures. Therefore, I chose to become your patient, and the results from prolotherapy have been remarkable.
I am pain free. There are no signs of radiculopathy. I have resumed a high level of physical activity, including a resumption of participation in the martial arts. Six weeks ago, my wife and I participated in a six-mile hike through the mountains of Indian Canyon, a nature preserve in California. Becoming your patient for this procedure has been a life-altering event, which has eliminated the need for surgical intervention. Therefore, it is without reservation that I highly recommend prolotherapy to any of your patients. When compared to the risks and poor results obtained from surgery, a more qualified intervention and provider would be difficult to find.
-T.K.
During August of 2006 I began having severe pain in the bottom of my foot behind my toes. I could walk no more than hour, before the pain became so severe that I had to sit down and remove my shoe for relief.
I went to a podiatrist and was told the nerves between toes two and three were inflamed and cortisone was injected. This did not solve the problem, and was told I needed surgery to remove the nerves.
For a second opinion, I went to Dr. Magaziner who had cured my sciatica the year before. He quickly diagnosed metitarsilitis, and no surgery was necessary.
With five treatments of prolotherapy, once a month, the pain disappeared and then I could "Shop until I dropped."
I have great confidence in Dr. Magaziner. He is an excellent diagnostician. When I suddenly could not lift my left arm, I was told by two orthopedists that I had bursitis. Dr. Magaziner, with the aid of EMG, diagnosed a trapped nerve between vertebrae. In addition he is a very compassionate and nice man.

My name is C.C., and I am retired from Verizon. I have had back pain for approximately 15 years. About two years ago, the pain became unbearable.
I visited a chiropractor and a neuro-surgeon. It was suggested by the neuro-surgeon that surgery would alleviate my pain. At this point, I would rather surgery be my very last option.
I revisited my primary care physician and he suggested Pain Management and recommended Dr. Magaziner.
Dr. Magaziner suggested prolo therapy injections begin after two months of physical therapy. He performed approximately 20 weeks of prolo therapy.
This therapy has greatly improved my mobility and my pain is almost gone. His treatment has really made a difference in my life.

Weight lifting is an important and enjoyable hobby for me. However, I developed rotator cuff tendonitis in both shoulders, which made it painful to train. I tried massage, stretching, icing, chiropractors, and ultrasound but nothing helped. I eventually researched prolotherapy treatment on the Internet and decided to give it a try. Dr. Magaziner performed the injections over the course of several office visits. My shoulders felt a lot better in the gym after the very first injection, and I was completely pain free after the third injection. It has been four years since I have had prolotherapy on my shoulders and I have not had any shoulder pain since.

Two summers ago (June 2003) I injured my lower back, later diagnosed as lumbar and sacra-iliac dysfunction with too much load on the S.I. joint with strained ligaments, caused by poor posture, stress, and over-exercise. For two years I tried every kind of treatment, none of which worked: chiropractic work, physical therapy, and even acupuncture. I was very discouraged especially since I am a very active person and was unable to participate in the sports and activities that I loved and was accustomed to playing. I was in constant discomfort, which affected every aspect of my life. I searched everywhere for answers for answers and finally discovered Prolotherapy in a book called "Listen to Your Pain" by Dr. Ben Benjamin. Her spoke about the wonders of this treatment. So I investigated and eventually found Dr. Ed Magaziner who practices Prolotherapy in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After meeting with him and having him examine me, I decided to try Prolotherapy. I began my treatments in January of 2005. After the initial two treatments (which were two weeks apart), the next five were a month apart. It took six treatments before I noticed any real results. And what results! Earlier this summer I was able to take a 16-mile hike with my brother and was back playing golf again, and even sailing. I just came back from climbing a mountain in Vermont and two days ago I played squash! All of this activity simply was not possible for me before I began the Prolotherapy treatments. Prolotherapy combined with stretching exercises have given my active life back to me. I am a true believer in Prolotherapy now and would recommend it to anyone suffering from the sort of physical ailments I have had. Thank you Prolotherapy and many thanks to you, Dr. Magaziner, and to your wonderful staff.

B. and I just returned from a long hike along a steep shore here in Ushuaia at the southern most tip of South America. We had a wonderful visit with a flock of Antarctic Magellanic penguins who also send their greetings. Usually I write postcards when away on vacation, but since this trip would have been absolutely impossible without your expert help and care, I feel it deserves a little longer communication.
As you know, my back pain began in early October, becoming acute despite chiropractic treatment including spinal adjustments and ultrasound. Then an orthopedist felt that I might have a herniated disc that was causing my sciatica. The disc, he guessed, was impinging on a nerve causing rather severe pain to shoot from my right lower back down my leg into my foot. His suggestion was to wait several weeks in hope that bed rest and some physical therapy would alleviate the pain.
As you know, this helped very little. I was flat on my back for five weeks before – remembering how you had helped an earlier arthritic knee condition – I sought your advice.
Your diagnosis through scrupulous examination and an MRI confirmed that I actually had three herniated discs, one major and two minor, that I believe were activated by some heavy lifting. Over the course of several months your treatments were both careful and precise beginning with three epidural procedures and cortisone shots that quenched about 90 percent of the pain. Then, to improve and make this permanent, you used a series of prolotherapy injections in my lower back to tighten and strengthen ligaments attached to the spine and discs, which over 68 years had become flaccid.
I still wasn’t sure I’d be fit enough to make this long scheduled cruise on time and bear the rigors of lengthy lights, but you were able to work with me and accelerate treatment enough so that I could go.
Now, just as you predicted, sufficient re-growth and strengthening has already occurred, and I’m amazingly free of pain. Prolotherapy, your incredibly thorough knowledge of anatomy, and your skills have worked a miracle. Yet, it’s not really miraculous. It’s a course of treatment long known, that you’ve perfected and apply with consummate expertise.
I’ve written this to let you know that our vacation has become a pain free success, and because I want you, through this letter, to let others know how I feel. Just great!
Sincerely,
L. R.
The subsequent pain and instability took me to another orthopedist and an eventual surgery to clean up torn cartilage and meniscis.

I was in extreme pain when I first came to see Dr. Magaziner in August 1998. My lower back and left hip hurt so badly that I was unable to sit for any length of time.I Had been this way since the beginning of April. A chiropractor and a neurologist were unable to be of any help to me. I was not able to sit or walk without pain and therefore had to change my plans for my summer vacation. My quality of life was very diminished because there was so much that I was unable to do and/or enjoy due to the constant pain. I am a teacher and it was difficult to do my job properly because the pain made it difficult to concentrate on what I was supposed to be doing. My chiropractor referred me to Dr. Magaziner who, over a six-month period, has treated me with a series of prolotherapy, trigger point, and joint injections. I can honestly say that I feel at least ninety percent better. I am able to sit and walk without pain and have resumed a number of activities that I had stopped because of my impaired functioning. I definitely credit Dr. Magaziner and his treatment for this improvement and will be forever grateful.

Just great!
